The Lee’s Summit Fire Fighter Charities is a 501(c)3 organization whose main goal is to give back to the community. Before the creation of the Lee’s Summit Fire Fighter Charities, all charitable giving was handled through the membership of IAFF Local 2195. In order to maximize our charitable donations and efforts, Local 2195 created the tax-exempt organization Lee’s Summit Fire Fighter Charities. A few of the charitable efforts that LSFFC is involved in….

The Bryan C. Pottberg Memorial Golf Tournament was started in 2004 in memory of Bryan Pottberg.Bryan was a Lee’s Summit Firefighter who died in the line-of-duty during a underwater training (SCUBA) accident on July 15, 1999. The golf tournament has occurred annually since 2004 and still going strong keeping Bryan’s memory alive and creating funding for charitable giving.

The Bryan C. Pottberg Memorial Scholarships are given out annually to eligible high school seniors from all four Lee’s Summit high schools and Fort Osage H.S., Bryan’s alma mater. The scholarship recipients receive $1000 to further their education in the area of public safety.

Pottberg Park is located in north Lee’s Summit and was dedicated in Bryan’s name. Local 2195 provided the funds to get the park construction started and the LSFFC continues to earmark donations for future upgrades to the park.

The 1951 Historic Howe Fire Truck was purchased several years ago from a retired fire chief of Lee’s Summit. The truck was once in full operation at the Lee’s Summit Fire Department and is now owned by the LSFFC. It’s current uses include parades and attending charitable events.

Breast Cancer Awareness…The LSFFC has contributed proceeds from the sale of T-shirts to local families, the St. Luke’s Image Renewal Center, and Fight Dirty. The T-shirts are worn by members of Local 2195 while on duty at the Lee’s Summit Fire Department for the month of October.

The Needy Family Fund is Local 2195’s, and now LSFFC’s, longest running fund raising event. Each year, members of Local 2195 stand on the corner of 3rd and Douglas (off-duty) right before Christmas to collect donations. Donations go to the Lee’s Summit Social Services and to needy families within our community. LSFFC is the largest single contributor to the Lee’s Summit Social Services.
